The Alien Rock

Situated on Pier Place, overlooking the harbour at Newhaven on the Firth of Forth is the Alien Rock, an indoor climbing centre. In a most unusual change of use, the Alien Rock is housed in the old Newhaven Free Church, built by J. Anderson Hamilton in 1852 and extended in 1883. The building features a 37m (120 feet) high steeple. Converted between 1994 and 1997 in such a manner as not to damage the exterior in any way, the centre now includes around 700 sq. metres (7500 sq. feet) of climbing wall.
