Stronuich Reservoir

An expansion of the River Lyon in SW Perth and Kinross Council Area, the Stronuich Reservoir is situated 3 miles (5 km) east of Loch Lyon. Opened in 1958, the reservoir forms part of the Breadalbane Hydro-Electric Power Scheme. It received water from the River Lyon and from Loch an Daimh to the north via the Cashley Power Station o its northern shore, and provides water to the Lochay Power Station to the south. A Borland Fish Lift permit salmon to ascend the dam and access the reservoir and the stretch of the River Lyon upstream. The lift acts much like a lock on a canal; fish are attracted into a lower pool by a stream of water, a lower gate is then closed at regular intervals and the water level raised until the fish can swim out at the upper level.
