Tobermory Harbour Visitor Centre

(Taigh Solais)

An award-winning visitor centre, business centre and the site of support facilities for the marina, the Tobermory Harbour Visitor Centre (Taigh Solais) is located at Ledaig at the southern end of Tobermory Harbour. It is a community enterprise promoted by the Tobermory Harbour Association and supported by the Crown Estate, Argyll & Bute Council and Highlands & Islands Enterprise.

The white-harled building was opened on 3rd July 2008 by HRH The Princess Royal and represents a modern interpretation of the vernacular style, inspired by a lighthouse, with its associated support buildings. It was the work of Edinburgh-based architect John Renshaw and the development cost £1.3 million.

On the ground floor is Mull Aquarium, together with toilets, showers and laundry facilities intended primarily to support the adjacent 30-berth marina. There is also an office and equipment garage for the Marine and Coastguard Agency. On the first floor are the offices of the Tobermory Harbour Association alongside six further offices rented to local enterprises. The top floor comprises a circular Board Room which offers panoramic views across Tobermory Bay. This is available for use by businesses and community groups.
