Balquhidderock Wood

(Bluebell Wood)

A local nature reserve lying between Broomridge and Bannockburn, 1½ miles (2.5 km) southeast of the centre of Stirling, Balquhidderock Wood is an ancient woodland and Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), designated as such in 1995. Extending to 6.2 ha (15 acres), it is known locally as Bluebell Wood owing to the carpet of Bluebells in the spring and early summer. The area supports a rich diversity of vegetation, with trees consisting primarily of Oak, Ash, Alder and Sycamore. There are a network of well-established woodland paths.
