A small and architecturally uninspiring hydro-electric power station located on the remote northwestern shore of Loch Shin in Sutherland, Cassley forms part of the Shin Hydro-Electric Power Scheme. Built in 1959, it generates 10 MW of electricity using two generators. Water is collected from the River Cassley to the west in a headpond behind a weir at Duchally and diverted through a 2½ mile / 4 km tunnel to the powerhouse. The station is owned and remotely-operated by SSE Plc (Scottish and Southern Electricity), based in Perth.
A weather station here recorded a remarkable temperature of 16.8 °C in the early hours of the 29th December 2019, a record for the last three days of the year in Scotland.
