Redbraes Community Garden

Located behind Redbraes Place in the Bonnington district of N Edinburgh the Redbraes Community Garden was a local initiative driven forward by community police officer, Simon Daley. Together with garden designer Becky Govier, many local volunteers, sponsorship, donations and a £10,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund Breathing Places Fund, the garden was created on a patch of land lying between housing blocks and next to the Water of Leith. Opened in the summer of 2008, the garden includes flower borders, raised beds for growing vegetables, an outdoor classroom and a wildlife area. There is also a greenhouse, bonfire circle and barbeque area. At the entrance is a Polish War Memorial, incorporating the famous Wojtek the Bear Memorial, unveiled in 2010.
