Poltalloch

An estate and roofless ivy-covered mansion in Kilmartin Glen, W Argyll and Bute, Poltalloch is centred a mile (1.5 km) northeast of Loch Crinan and 2 miles (3 km) southwest of Kilmartin. The fine ashlar English Jacobean style mansion was built 1849-53 by William Burn (1789 - 1870) for the Malcolms of Poltalloch. It lies amongst pleasant parkland, with the picturesque St Columba's Episcopal Church (1854) and the U-plan Poltalloch Home Farm (1862) still in use nearby. Burn's East and North Lodges also remain extant. Standing next to some fine specimen trees, St. Columba's Church includes several memorials to the Malcolms and an early Christian Cross Slab brought here in 1928. The surrounding area is well known for its archaeological monuments.
