An unmanned railway halt on the Inverclyde Line which links Glasgow with Port Glasgow, Greenock and Wemyss Bay, Paisley St. James Station (Gael: Eaglais Sheumais Phàislig) opened in 1841. Operated by ScotRail, it is used by around 50,000 passengers per annum (2010), busiest when football supporters are travelling to matches at nearby St. Mirren Park. It is preceded by Paisley Gilmour Street Railway Station, a half-mile (1 km) to the east southeast and followed by Bishopton, 4½ miles (7 km) to the north northwest.
