A modest bridge which crosses the Water of Leith in W Edinburgh, the Balgreen Road Bridge is located 2 miles (3 km) west southwest of the city centre. The bridge now carries three lanes of traffic, with pavements on either side. A pretty red sandstone balustrade incorporates paired large globe lights, in Art Nouveau style. The bridge was built 1932-33 and opened by Lord Provost W.J. Thomson. The design was by W. Allan Macartney, Burgh Engineer, and the contractors were Wm. Arnott McLeod & Co. Ltd.
