Pitlochry Station

Pitlochry Railway Station (Gael: Baile Chloichridh) lies on the Highland Line at the termination of Station Road, which connects to the main thoroughfare of this Perth & Kinross village. The station opened in 1863 for what was then the Inverness and Perth Junction Railway and the influx of visitors brought Pitlochry's success as a resort. It comprises two platforms, traditional stone-built Victorian station buildings (1882, by Murdoch Paterson) and a cast-iron latticework footbridge. The line is single-track but widens to two tracks as it runs through the station, forming a passing loop. Pitlochry is now used by around 87,000 passengers per annum. The journey time is approximately 10 minutes from Blair Atholl, the next station 6 miles (10 km) to the northwest, and 12 minutes from Dunkeld, 12 miles (19 km) to the south southeast.
