Brechin Booster Station

The Brechin Booster Station lies on the north bank of the River South Esk in Angus, at its junction with the Noran Water, 3¾ miles (6 km) west southwest of Brechin. Opened in 1975, this is one of four pumping stations which propel an oil-and-gas mixture through the Forties Pipeline System en route from the North Sea to Kinneil Terminal near Grangemouth. Built by BP, this pipeline system represents the largest offshore oil-gathering network in the world, with a capacity of more than one million barrels of oil per day, representing around 40% of the total UK oil production. It was bought by multi-national chemicals giant INEOS in 2017. The other pumping stations are at Cruden Bay, Netherley and Balbeggie.
