Ayr Railway Station

A relatively grand station situated on Smith Street in the centre of Ayr (South Ayrshire) which serves the Ayrshire Coast and the Glasgow South Western railway lines. The original Ayr Station was operated by the Glasgow, Paisley, Kilmarnock & Ayr Railway and opened in 1837. The present station opened in 1886 and now comprises four platforms. It is preceded by Maybole Railway Station, 7½ miles (12 km) to the south southwest, and followed by Prestwick Town, 3 miles (5 km) to the north. Operated by ScotRail, Ayr Railway Station is staffed part-time and is used by 1.55 million passengers (2015-16).

The adjacent Station Hotel opened in 1866.
