Little Raith Wind Farm

Located 1¼ miles (2 km) east of Cowdenbeath and a similar distance south of Lochgelly, Little Raith was Fife's first commercial wind farm but is controversial because of its proximity to housing and to the gas processing plant at Mossmorran. The farm comprises nine GE turbines each producing 2.75 MW of power, giving a total generation capacity of 24.75 MW. Each turbine has a tower height of 75m (246 feet) and the blades are 100m (328 feet) in diameter, giving a full height to blade tip of 125m (410 feet). Owned and operated by Kennedy Renewables, the farm was commissioned in November 2012 and officially opened on 24th June 2013 by Fife Provost Jim Leishman. It supports local people and projects through a community benefit scheme, which receives around £50,000 per year, or £1.25 million over the 25 year life span of the project. The fund is independently administered by the 4 Winds Development Trust.
