Located in the Dalry Hills, Millour Hill Wind Farm is situated within the southern boundary of Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park, 3 miles (5 km) northwest of Dalry in North Ayrshire. Six Siemens SWT-3.0-101 direct-drive turbines are arranged over the northeastern slopes of Baidland Hill and Cockrobin Hill, each generating 3 megawatts (MW) of power, giving a total generation capacity of 18 MW. The electricity is exported via an underground connection to Saltcoats where it feeds into the grid. Each unit is secured on a reinforced concrete foundation, has a blade diameter of 101m (331 feet) and is mounted on a 75-m (246-foot) high tower, giving a total height to blade tip of 125m (410 feet). The optimal wind speed is 13 metres/second (30 mph) but generation begins at 4 m/s (9 mph) and the turbines stop at 25 m/s (56 mph) for reasons of safety.
Commissioned in May 2012, this was first wind farm in the UK to use Siemens Direct Drive turbine technology. It was developed and is operated by Community Windpower, and benefits a range of local community-based projects.
Wardlaw Wood Farm lies immediately to the west.
