A gently-arched footbridge across the River Teviot in Hawick (Scottish Borders), the Lawson Bridge connects Manse Lane (next to Hawick High School) with Common Haugh, a quarter-mile (0.4 km) west of the town centre. The current structure dates from 1988 and was built a little upstream of its predecessor, a cast iron bridge of 1904, which replaced the original wooden bridge built in 1886. It was named after Alexander Sutherland Lawson (1842 - 1916), a watchmaker and jeweller, who was a long-standing member of the Town Council and gave money for its construction.
