Balloch Railway Station

(Am Bealach)

A busy terminal railway station in West Dunbartonshire, Balloch (Gael: Am Bealach) lies at the end of the a single-track branch of the North Clyde Line, a quarter-mile (0.5 km) west northwest of the town centre and a half-mile (1 km) south southeast of Balloch Pier on the southern shore of Loch Lomond. This station opened in 1988 to replace Balloch Central Station, located immediately to the north, which had been built in 1850 by the Caledonian and Dunbartonshire Junction Railway on their line through the Vale of Leven. A station at Balloch Pier, which had been the end of the line, closed in 1986.

Now operated by ScotRail, Balloch Station is staffed part-time and is used by 543,006 passengers annually (2016-17). It is preceded by Alexandria Railway Station, 1¼ miles (2 km) to the south.
