Caldercruix Railway Station

(Cròcan Chaladair)

A modern two-platform station on the re-opened Airdrie-Bathgate Railway in North Lanarkshire, Caldercruix (known in Gaelic as Cròcan Chaladair) is located in the centre of the village. The original station here was opened on the Bathgate and Coatbridge Railway in 1862. The station closed in 1956 when passenger services were withdrawn between Airdrie and Bathgate. However the line was reconstructed in 2010 (now designated as part of the North Clyde Line) and a new station eventually opened the following year following construction delays. It is operated by ScotRail, unstaffed and was used by 88,688 passengers in 2016-17. It is preceded by Blackridge Railway Station, 5 miles (8 km) to the east, and followed by Drumgelloch, 2¾ miles (4 km) to the southwest.
