Cathcart Railway Station

(Coille Chart)

A two-platform suburban halt on the Cathcart Circle Line, Cathcart Railway Station (known in Gaelic as Coille Chart) lies a quarter-mile (0.5 km) east southeast of Cathcart and a half-mile (1 km) south of Battlefield in Glasgow City. A temporary station was constructed here in 1886, as the terminus of the Cathcart District Railway which was developed to form the Cathcart Circle in 1894, when the current station opened. The building is similar to many on this line, located on an island platform and with glass canopies on both sides. Operated by ScotRail, Cathcart Railway Station is staffed part-time and has seen a significant increase in passengers from 471,572 per annum (2009-10) to 632,276 (2016-17). It is preceded by Mount Florida Railway Station, a half-mile (1 km) to the north, and followed (on the Circle) by Langside, a similar distance to the west northwest, and (on the Neilston Branch) by Muirend Railway Station, a mile (1.5 km) to the southwest. A complex triangular junction, along with goods sidings, developed to the northeast of the station.
