A railway station in Easter Ross, Invergordon (Gael: Inbhir Ghòrdain) lies on the Far North Line, a quarter-mile (0.5 km) west northwest of the town centre. This station opened in 1874 on the Inverness & Aberdeen Junction Railway. It has two platforms alongside a section of double track, one of these tracks representing a passing loop. There were once several sidings and a branch serving the harbour, but these have all been lifted. Now operated by ScotRail, Invergordon Railway Station is unstaffed. An increased number of trains has seen passenger numbers increase from 20,648 per annum in 2010 to almost 32,000 in 2015. Invergordon is preceded by Alness Railway Station, 2¾ miles (4.5 km) to the west, and followed by Fearn, 9½ miles (15 km) to the northeast.
