Maryhill Railway Station

(Cnoc Màiri)

Maryhill Railway Station (referred to in Gaelic as Cnoc Màiri) lies on the line of the same name, between Maryhill and Dawsholm, 3 miles (5 km) northwest of the city centre. The original Maryhill Station opened in 1858 on the Glasgow, Dumbarton, and Helensburgh Railway. It closed to passengers in 1951, re-opened briefly in 1960 as Maryhill Park Station, but closed again in 1964. It was rebuilt in 1993, one of several stations opened to permit the reintroduction of suburban passenger services on a line which otherwise just connected Glasgow Queen Street Station to the West Highland Line.

Now operated by ScotRail, Maryhill Station is unstaffed and is used by around 90,000 passengers per annum (2016). It is preceded by Summerston Railway Station, a quarter-mile (0.5 km) to the east and, until 2005, this was the terminus for services. Subsequently services have been extended and the following station is now Kelvindale, a quarter-mile (0.5 km) to the southwest.
