A railway station on the West Highland Line, Spean Bridge (Gael: Drochaid an Aonachain) is located on Station Road, on the southern edge of the village. This station first opened in 1894 and for many years was a junction, with a branch line proceeding up the Great Glen to Fort Augustus, terminating at a steamer pier at the southwestern end of Loch Ness. This line closed in the 1930s. A passing loop and sidings remain at Spean Bridge, although the latter at little used. A signal box here managed traffic on the line, but this mechanical system was replaced in 1980s. The picturesque station buildings have now been put to other uses.
Now operated by ScotRail, Spean Bridge Railway Station is unstaffed and was used by 7332 passengers in 2016. It is preceded by Roy Bridge Railway Station, 3 miles (5 km) to the east, and followed by Fort William, 8½ miles (14 km) to the west southwest.
