Rubh' an Eun Lighthouse

Rubh' an Eun Lighthouse is a minor light on the eastern side of Glencallum Bay in the extreme southeast of the Isle of Bute. It faces Little Cumbrae Lighthouse across the Firth of Clyde, marking either side of the channel. Commissioned in 1911, possibly on the site of an earlier lighthouse built in the 1880s, the present structure comprises an octagonal white-painted iron tower, some 8m (26 feet) in height. The lantern is surrounded by a gallery. It features an optical arrangement designed by the Stevenson lighthouse engineers which emits a red flash every six seconds.

This automatic lighthouse was built for the Clyde Lighthouses Trust. The Trust merged to become the Clyde Port Authority in 1966 which, although now privatised, continues to own and operate the lighthouse.
