Waterlines

(Invershore Visitor Centre)

A local visitor centre at Invershore (Lybster) in Caithness, Waterlines opened in 2001 in a former fishing storehouse next to Lybster harbour. The centre combines an exhibition with a cafe and facilities for visiting pleasure craft. The museum describes the social history of a fishing community and the building of the harbour. There is a particular emphasis on the herring fishery which saw Lybster grow to the third largest harbour in Scotland, employing more than 3000 people during the herring season. The centre also has displays on the geology and wildlife of the surrounding area, including live camera feeds of breeding seabirds on local cliffs.

Waterlines is run by Lybster Heritage Trust, and is open daily from May to September.
