A public park in Irvine, North Ayrshire, Milgarholm Park is located in a meander in the River Irvine, half-mile (1 km) southeast of the town centre. Occupying fields once associated with Milgarholm farm, the park comprises grass, areas of woodland and four seven-a-side grass football pitches. Extending to 11 ha (27 acres), the park was created by the Irvine Development Corporation (IDC) and opened on 20th September 1995 by television gardener Jim McColl (b.1935) and IDC Chairman Maurice Crichton. Dr. John Cumming of Milgarholm, a Provost of Irvine, is said to have invited the poet Robert Burns to come to Irvine. The park is now managed by KA Leisure on behalf of North Ayrshire Council.
