Maxwell Park

A well-maintained area of parkland in Pollokshields (Glasgow City), Maxwell Park opened in 1890 and was the gift of Sir John Stirling Maxwell (1866 - 1956) of Pollok House. Stirling Maxwell donated not only the land, but plants from his garden, some of which are said to have been brought to Scotland by George Forrest (1873 - 1932). The park extends to 8 ha (19.8 acres) and includes fine trees, planted beds and a 0.42-ha / 1-acre pond. Pollokshields Burgh Hall was built on the eastern edge of the park.
