A' Chruach Wind Farm is located within the Kilmichael Forest on a ridge which extends southwest from the summit of A' Chruach in Mid-Argyll (Argyll and Bute). The site comprises 21 Senvion turbines of two different types; twelve of the MM92 model with an output of 2 MW, a hub height of 78m (256 feet) and a blade diameter of 92m (302 feet) together with nine MM100 machines, each rated at 2.03 MW, a hub height of 80m (262 feet) and a blade diameter of 100m (328 feet). The total output is 42.6 MW. Construction began in November 2014 and the first turbines were commissioned in March 2016. Developed by Infinis Energy at a cost of £11.5 million, on land owned by Forestry and Land Scotland, the site is now operated by Ventient Energy. The principal contractor was Glasgow-based R.J. McLeod who were responsible for new access roads, upgrading of existing tracks and bridges, a new 20m-span bridge, turbine foundations, control buildings and electrical works.
For the next 25 years, Ventient Energy provide around £150,000 from their annual income from this wind farm to support community projects in the local area.
