Blackcraig Wind Farm

Blackcraig Wind Farm lies on a partially-forested ridge of small hills in the Glenkens of Dumfries and Galloway. It extends from the slopes of Troquhain Hill in the west to Fell Hill in the east, and takes its name from Blackcraig Hill, one of the more prominent summits, which lies at the centre of the wind farm. It comprises 23 Siemens SWT-2.3-93 turbines, each with a hub height of 63.5m (208 feet), blade diameter of 93m (305 feet) and a power output of 2.3 MW, giving a total generation capacity of 52.9 MW. The farm was developed by DP Energy Ireland at a cost of £82.7 million on behalf of Scottish & Southern Energy (SSE), on land owned by Forestry and Land Scotland. SSE subsequently sold its interests in the farm to Blue Energy in May 2015 and it was sold once again to London-based Noir Holdings / Temporis Capital in 2018. Approximately £260,000 per year will be paid into a fund which will benefit the local community.
