Carraig Mhor Lighthouse is located on the east coast of Islay, a half-mile (1 km) south of Port Askaig, acting as a navigational aid to ships passing through the Sound of Islay. Situated on the rocky shoreline, below wooded bluffs, the lighthouse comprises a white octagonal metal tower, 7m (23 feet) in height, the light was established in 1928.
