Military Museum Scotland

Located in the grounds of the former Linburn House, in Wilkieston (West Lothian), occupying premises leased from the Linburn Centre for the Scottish War Blinded, the award-winning Military Museum Scotland provides a fascinating insight into Scotland's military past, from the First World War to the present day. This private museum was opened by Isobel Brydie, Lord Lieutenant of West Lothian, in 2017. It gives a permanent home to display and share the personal collection of a former soldier which had previously been toured around local schools. The expanding collection includes military equipment, uniforms and memorabilia, with an army field kitchen, 25-pounder field gun and First World War trenches displayed outside. Little is behind glass; the museum is intended to be interactive and visitors can handle the exhibits. The museum is particularly targeted at school parties and has also become a hub for military veterans, offering them a breakfast club and other activities. In 2020, the museum was given a grant of £70,000 to buy and restore a Saracen armoured personnel carrier as a project for local veterans, which will eventually be put on display.
