Castle Douglas Hospital

Castle Douglas Hospital is healthcare facility in Dumfries and Galloway, situated on the slopes of Whitepark Hill, on Academy Street at the eastern edge of the town, a quarter-mile (0.5 km) east of the centre. It represents a 21-bed community hospital providing assessment of adults, rehabilitation and palliative care. Built in 1897-99 as the Castle Douglas Cottage Hospital, representing a monument to mark Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee, the building was designed by Richard Park of Newton Stewart (1842 - 1906). Comprising a red-brick single-storey construction with half-timbered gables, it was extended to the east in 1934. Today, the hospital is managed by NHS Dumfries and Galloway, while patient care is organised by local general practitioners and consultants from Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.
