Castle Douglas Library

Occupying an elevated position on King Street, Castle Douglas Public Library is a distinctive building in red sandstone by George Washington Browne (1853 - 1939). It features a round tower with a copper-clad ogee roof and opened in 1904. As well as books, music and DVD lending, the library includes public-access computers and also includes a service centre for Dumfries and Galloway Council services. The building was extended in 1938 to create the Castle Douglas Art Gallery.
