Bridge of Wick

(Wick Bridge)

The principal crossing of the Wick River in Wick, Caithness, the three-span Bridge of Wick carries the A99 road, known here as Bridge Street. It was designed by Murdoch Paterson (1826-98) and built 1875-7, replacing another bridge here which was the work of Thomas Telford in 1821. This had been built on the site of a wooden-decked bridge dating from 1665. It comprises three shallow segmental arches constructed in ashlar, features rounded cutwaters and is now B-listed.
