Newhaven Lighthouse

Newhaven Lighthouse is a distinctive white cast-iron octagonal tower at the end of the eastern breakwater of Newhaven Harbour, the structure was built by James Dove & Company of Edinburgh in 1869 and first illuminated in 1878 as the final act of harbour extension works. Newhaven Lighthouse was decommissioned in 1930, B-listed with the harbour in 1970, but relit by Forth Ports in 2018 for the purposes of decoration rather than navigation. This was the second lighthouse here, and the remains of the first lies on the same breakwater just to the east and dates from c. 1830. It comprises a circular ashlar base with a concrete dome replacing the former lantern.
