Built on the site of the former Scottish Agricultural Museum in Ingliston Showground, 7 miles (11 km) west of Edinburgh, the 'Cars of the Stars' Museum displayed a range of vehicles from famous films and television series. Opened in 2003, this museum closed after only a short time failing to attract visitor numbers. The exhibits included one of the finest collections of 'James Bond' cars in the world, with four Aston Martins and an equal number of Lotuses. Also on show are the gull-winged DeLorean sports car from 'Back to the Future', the red Ferrari from the American TV series 'Magnum', KITT from the 'Knightrider' TV series, The Saint's Volvo, a Batmobile, the VW Beetle from 'Herbie goes to Monte Carlo' and Minis belonging to actor Peter Sellars and the eccentric 'Mr Bean'.
A private museum, conceived and owned by artist and former dentist, Peter Nelson, who had set up his first motor museum in 1989 at Keswick, in the English Lake District, the Edinburgh museum was his second.
