Baillie John McMorran

? - 1595

Magistrate. A magistrate in Edinburgh and one of its wealthiest citizens in the late 16th C. McMorran is perhaps best remembered for the manner of his death. He attended a riot at the High School of Edinburgh, where the pupils had barricaded themselves in a class-room because the authorities had refused to grant them extra holidays. McMorran was shot and killed by a certain William Sinclair, one of the school-boys. His house remains in Riddle's Court off Edinburgh's Lawnmarket.
