Alister Allan


1944 -

Medal-winning rifle-shooter. Allan was born in Freuchie (Fife). In a shooting career spanning 26 years, he took part in six Commonwealth Games (1968 - 1994) winning three gold, three silver and four bronze medals. He also competed in five Olympic Games, winning a bronze medal in 1984 and a silver medal in 1988, both in small-bore rifle shooting. For many years, Allan was Scotland's single most successful Commonwealth Games medallist, a record only surpassed by swimmer Duncan Scott in 2022.

Following his record-breaking career, he became an international shooting coach. Allan was awarded an MBE in 1989 and became one of the first members of the Scottish Sports Hall of Fame in 2001.
