William (Bill) Forsyth


1946 -

Director and film-maker, born in Glasgow. Forsyth is known for four films; That Sinking Feeling (1979), launched on the Edinburgh Film Festival, Gregory's Girl (1980), Local Hero (1983) and Comfort and Joy (1984). He gained BAFTA awards for Best Screenplay (1982) and Best Director (1983). His later work, which has not been so successful, included Being Human (1993), starring Robin Williams, and Gregory's Two Girls (1999), starring both John Gordon Sinclair (b.1962) and Dougray Scott (b.1965).
