Golf professional, club manufacturer and golf-course designer. Born in Musselburgh, Dunn was the son of another golfer Willie Dunn (Senior, 1821-78) and the brother of the noted course designer Willie Dunn (Junior, 1865 - 1952). He learned the craft of club-making under his father's tutelage and Dunn followed his father to North Berwick, where he served a greenkeeper (1869). After a brief sojourn in France, Dunn returned to North Berwick in 1881 where he ran a notable workshop making clubs and taught the game on the West Links. His pupils included two prime ministers; namely William Gladstone (1809-98) and Arthur Balfour (1848 - 1930). He is said to have designed more than 100 golf courses, mostly in England.
