Painter. Born in Edinburgh, Manson became an apprentice woodcut-engraver with the publishers W. & R. Chambers in the city. He took evening classes in art and copied works in the National Gallery of Scotland as practice. In 1871 he began to paint as a profession and is noted for his delicate water-colours of children, together with occasional portraits and landscapes. Between 1873-5 he visited France, Belgium and the Netherlands, while spending several months on Sark in the Channel Islands.
With failing health he travelled to Lympstone (Devon, England) where he died at an unfortunately early age.
