Katie (KT) Tunstall


1975 -

Singer and song-writer. Born in Edinburgh, Tunstall was raised in St. Andrews, the adopted daughter of a physics lecturer and a primary school teacher. She was educated at Madras College and Dundee High School. She began playing music at a young age and had learned the guitar and was writing her own songs as a teenager.

Tunstall began her career with local bands in the East Neuk of Fife but developed into a popular artist at concert venues around Britain, including Glastonbury and T-in-the-Park. Her debut album Eye To The Telescope (2004) sold more than 4.5 million copies worldwide and was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize in 2005. It included the successful singles Other Side Of The World, Black Horse & The Cherry Tree and Suddenly I See, the latter gaining an Ivor Novello Award in 2006. A second album Drastic Fantastic rose to No 3. in the UK charts and No. 9 in the USA. Further albums followed, but without the same success.
