Iain Stewart MacMillan


1938 - 2006

Pop photographer. Born in Carnoustie, MacMillan was educated at Dundee High School and started his career as a trainee manager at a jute factory in Dundee but went on to study photography. His best known work was the iconic cover for the Beatles' Abbey Road album in 1969, which featured Lennon, McCartney, Starr and Harrison on a zebra crossing. He later helped John Lennon and Yoko Ono with the design of their single Happy Christmas - War is Over and worked with Paul McCartney recreating the Abbey Road image for his Paul is Live album.

He died in Dundee, having suffered from cancer.
