Julie Fleeting

1980 -

Footballer. Born in Kilwinning (North Ayrshire), into a footballing family, Fleeting was educated there at St. Michael's Academy. Her prodigious sporting talent emerged at school, where she played basketball and hockey as well as football. She went on to train as a physical education teacher at Moray House College of Education (University of Edinburgh).

However she is best known as an effective striker in league and international football. She began her professional career with Ayr United, spent a year in the USA with San Diego Spirit (2002-3), returned to Scotland to play for Ross County, and then spent with nine years at English club Arsenal Ladies. She signed for her local team Kilwinning in 2013, moved to Celtic Ladies (2013-15) and completed her career with Glasgow City in 2016. She also had a successful international career, playing for her country on 121 occasions and scoring 116 goals.

Alongside her football career, she has continued teaching including at her old school, St. Michael's Academy in Kilwinning, then St. Matthew's Academy in Saltcoats, Charleston Academy in Inverness and Auchenharvie Academy in Stevenston.

Fleeting was awarded an MBE in 2008 and was inducted into Scottish Football Hall of Fame in 2018. She is married to Morton Football Club goalkeeper Colin Stewart.
