Artist. Born in San Raphael, France, the son of the painter Anne Redpath and architect James Beattie Michie (1891 - 1959). The family returned to the UK after the stockmarket crash and Michie attended Hawick High School. He trained at Edinburgh College of Art, where he was taught by Sir William Gillies (1898 - 1973), and then travelled to Italy (1953-54), with fellow student John Houston (1930 - 2008). He was noted for his Expressionist canvases, with a bold and colourful style similar to that of his mother. His works hang in the collections of Aberdeen Art Gallery, the City Art Centre in Edinburgh, Hawick Museum, the Falconer Museum in Forres, Glasgow Museums Resource Centre, and the Tate Galley in London. Michie was a member of the Royal Scottish Academy and was awarded an OBE in 1997. He died in Edinburgh.
