Timothy (Tim) Baillie


1979 -

Olympic champion. Born in Aberdeen, his parents were both enthusiastic slalom canoeists, Baillie was raised in Westhill (Aberdeenshire). He was educated at Westhill Academy and the University of Nottingham. Competing in C-2 class canoeing, he won bronze, and silver medals in the European Championships in 2009, a further bronze in 2010 and a gold in 2012. He also won bronze medals in the World Championships of 2009 and 2011. Baillie took a gold medal in the London Olympics of 2012, a feat commemorated by two golden pillar boxes in Westhill. Baillie lives in Nottingham, to gain access to training facilities, and was awarded an MBE in the New Year's Honours List of 2013.
