Playwright. Born in Glasgow of Russian Jewish parents, Taylor was raised in Crosshill. He left school at fourteen and took a number of jobs while writing plays in his spare time. Socialism and Zionism shaped his intellectual development. He began to come to public attention when his play Aa went tae Blaydon Races was premiered in Newcastle. In 1965 he began a relationship with the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh, which saw him produce a series of plays for that company, beginning with Happy Days are Here Again. His 1981 play Good was made into a film in 2008. The 1992 Edinburgh Festival included several of his plays.
Taylor died at his home in Northumberland.
