Gordon Brewer


1955 -

Political broadcaster. Born in Dumbarton, Brewer was raised in Stirling where he attended St. Modans High School. He continued his education at the University of Edinburgh, reading philosophy and English literature, before beginning his career in journalism at The Shetland Times in 1980. He became business correspondent of the Sunday Standard in 1983 and moved to London three years later with the same role for the The Scotsman. Brewer joined the BBC in 1988, becoming their correspondent in Tokyo.

He returned to London to join Newsnight in 1993, first as a reporter and later as presenter. He became a presenter of the Newsnight Scotland when it launched in 1999 and returned to Scotland permanently in 2001. He has also presented The Politics Show Scotland, Politics Scotland and Sunday Politics Scotland.
