Daniel Macmillan


1813 - 1857

Publisher. Born on the Isle of Arran, and educated at Irvine (North Ayrshire), Macmillan opened a bookshop in London (1843), but soon became a publisher. Following his death, his sons led the company which became a well-respected international business. The British Prime Minister Sir Harold Macmillan (1894 - 1986) was his grandson.
