High Constable of Scotland. Possibly born in Cumbria rather than France, De Morville was a Norman knight, who had joined Prince David in France and helped him establish himself as King David I of Scotland. De Morville was appointed Constable (by 1140) and gained land in Cunninghame, Lauderdale and the Lothians. He is said to have founded Kilwinning Abbey c. 1150 and around the same time also founded Dryburgh Abbey, where he retired, died and is buried. He married Beatrice de Beauchamp and one of their sons, another Hugh, was one of the murderers of Thomas Becket.
