Sculptor. Born in London, the son of another William Mossman (1793 - 1851) and younger brother of the more famous John Mossman (1817-90), both also sculptors. He was trained by his father in Glasgow, where the family had moved c.1830. He worked for a time in London, undertaking stone-carving for the Houses of Parliament. He returned to Glasgow where he worked with the architect John Honeyman (1831 - 1914), including the Trinity Congregational Church (now Henry Wood Hall) and Lansdowne Church. Mossman also worked on commercial buildings and monuments in Glasgow's graveyards. He was buried next to his father in Sighthill Cemetery.
