(Alexander) Easton Gibb


1841 - 1916

Engineer. Born in Ratho into an engineering family, Gibb was the son of Alexander Gibb (1804-67), who was a pupil of Thomas Telford (1757 - 1834). He trained in railway construction engineering and went on to serve as Resident Engineer on the Strathspey Branch of the Great North of Scotland Railway, the path to this role was undoubtedly smoothed by his father. Gibb was involved in a series of projects including the Callander and Oban Railway and railways in England. He also built waterworks for Aberdeen, Dundee, and Bradford in Yorkshire, together with King Edward VII Bridge at Kew in London, docks at Newport (Monmouthshire) and Ipswich (Suffolk), and the Naval Dockyard at Rosyth. Gibb died in London.
